In A Few Whiles
21 June – 13 July 2025
Straitjacket Gallery, Newcastle
The investigations undertaken for In A Few Whiles seek out new intent and result in rearranged forms. Through repurposing existing ideas to generate new ways of seeing and understanding, fragmenting subject matter, existing artworks and found images, to enable new ideas and forms to take shape.
In A Few Whiles is part of a much larger series of oil paintings with meticulous application using masking tape to impose structure and fragment, producing purely abstract outcomes leaving but a trace of rigorous structure below, hidden under an accumulation of subtle marks upon the panels surface. Fragmented forms are connected by a worn texture and dark inky tone recalling the smudges and striations of photocopier toner.
